Additional vocal & instrumental guest artists will teach special workshops.
Weekend trips to Tagore’s Santiniketan and special concerts.

Fees include: flight (LA-Calcutta), local transportation, events, teachers fees, accomodations and food for the 2 weeks residing at Ramakrisha Mission.

• Daily Instrumental Classes (sitar, sarod and western instruments)

• Daily Vocal Classes

• Daily Tabla and Percussion Classes

• Daily Raga Jazz Ensemble (creative contemporary music for all instruments)

• Additional classes in raga theory, practical application and improvisation
+ optional yoga & basic spoken Bengali (language)

Daily Schedule (Mon - Fri ~ 2 weeks/10 days)

6am - Riyaz session (optional)

7 am - Yoga (optional)

8am - Breakfast

8:30 - Bengali

9am - Vocal workshop

9am - Tabla/percussion workshop (overlaping)

11am - Instrumental Workshop

1pm - Lunch

3pm - Guest Artist workshop

6pm - Dinner

7pm - Raga Jazz Ensemble

Sounds Indian is now available on two levels. In level 1 children learn some of the basic words (Dha, Dhin, Ta, Ka, etc.), rhythms and hand gestures of Indian ‘vocal percussion’ through games and other activities. They also learn Sargam (Indian sol-fah) and use it to learn a simple Indian melody. In level 2 (which requires that participants have taken the first workshop) children further their knowledge of Indian rhythm and vocal percussion and learn about dance and rhythmic improvisation. Both workshops culminate in the performance of a rousing ‘mini-raga’ by both facilitators and participants.
