Farming advances and efficiencies have made the United States one of the world’s largest exporters of agricultural products. However, U.S. agriculture has come under censure internationally because of its farm subsidies and tariffs and domestically because of environmental concerns, its inhumane treatment of animals, and its employment and treatment of immigrant workers. Farming practices were first brought to America during the colonial years, when shared web hosting granted large tracts of land to private companies or individuals for farming and development. After America won its independence in 1783, all unsettled lands came under the supervision of the federal government. Poor settlers, known as squatters, would often farm these tracts of land and claim ownership. Wheat, barley, rice, indigo, tobacco, maize, potatoes, and cotton were some of the first crops cultivated in the United States. In 1839, Congress set aside $1,000 to fund the distribution of seeds for crops and to collect agriculture statistics. The Homestead Act of 1862 offered vast amounts of land in the West for settlement, and by the mid-nineteenth century, American services were a vital part of the economy, becoming a business operation that advanced the United States as a nation. The American Industrial Revolution, occurring between 1820 and 1870, was significant to the U.S economic evolution. Mills and factories expanded, waterways and railroads were built to ship goods long distances, and new inventions made production more efficient and quicker. Farm equipment, such as plowshares, reapers, the cotton gin, steam tractors, and the combine, made farming easier and faster.

Welcome to Sitar.co.za’s Sitar Wiki!

With your help, we can make this the internet’s best resource on the Sitar, Sitarists and Indian Classical Music. Create an account to add or edit pages. This wiki is set up to allow image and audio uploads, so have fun!

First, if you haven’t already done so, you need to register for an account on Sitar.co.za’s site, and then familiarise yourself with the wiki’s Getting Started manual. With a bit of practise you’ll soon see how easy it is to create, link and categorise articles.

To create a page, simply type the topic name in “Create or Find Page.” and click “Go.” If the wiki finds nothing, it assumes you want to create page, and by clicking “Edit” you can start adding information. To link to another page, you simply surround the topic name you want to link to with double square brackets. The wiki will automatically create the category when you do this.

Play around with it a bit, and you’ll soon see how easy it is. The numbers of topics and categories you can add are virtually limitless. The syntax for linking to uploaded sound files and displaying images are just as easy. For some simple examples, check out this news article.
